Epicentre was 28km SSW Glan (population ~110,000) and 58km south of General Santos (population ~700,000), where very strong shaking was reported, resulting in the collapse of several small buildings. At least 32 people havedied and over 200 others have been injured. A tsunami warning was issued for parts of the Philippines,Indonesia and Malaysia, however, the threat has now passed, with tsunami waves reaching 1.4m observed on the Philippine coast. The mainshock was followed by a magnitude 6.5 aftershock 78 minutes later.
